Some ladies of the Nigerian Immigration Service(NIS) who participated in the Bop daddy challenge on the internet may be on the brink of loosing their jobs.
The Bop Daddy Challenge like many other recent internet sensations born from the recent lockdown.
It involves a video of participants switching into different trendy wears aided by sharp camera quality and video editing apps while the song ‘Bop Daddy’ by rapper, Falz plays in the background.
This challenge is one of the favorite of the internet, bringing much delight to otherwise bored internet surfers.
The Nigerian Immigration service however do not seem to share the same sentiment.
The NIS says the video which shown some of its staff switch from their uniforms to trendy wears is an embarrassment to the commission.
According to the Office of the Deputy Comptroller General, by making that video, the ladies had “sabotaged” the values of the commission.

According to the Office of the Deputy Comptroller General, they “desecrated” the uniform and should be released from duty.
A gentle reminder that Nigeria is built on violating women’s rights and agency! What kind of sexist Public Service Law frames this as “immoral behaviour.” pic.twitter.com/EU3WKqDKpD

The letter reads
“The video of the NIS women revealed a rather disturbing and embarrassing display of indecent flaunting of your bodies, desecration of service uniform/beret & the use of inappropriate language thereby, sabotaging the values upheld by the service”
“To state the obvious, your act has caused a lot of embarrassment to the NIS and in line with our standard as a paramilitary organisation is considered scandalous and an act unbecoming of an officer and therefore a violation of PSR 030401 and 030402. This is a serious misconduct liable to dismissal from service.
“In view of the foregoing, therefore, you are requested to make a representation, if any, within 72hrs on receipt of this letter, why disciplinary action should not be taken against you.”
The letter was signed by Haliru who deputizes for NIS boss Mohammed Babandede. Recall that Babandede is still recouping from the coronavirus as is yet to resume office.

News of their imminent dismissal has caused quite a stir on the internet especially on Twitter.
Some have termed the move as sexist misogynistic from an institution that seem to be doing its most to keep women under it’s thumb.

How can I put this, @NGRSenate , @NGRPresident this is a shame. What is immoral here, where is the sabotage, whoever issued this should be cautioned. It is nauseating to say the list. The Nigerian Customs is NOT a religious agency nor is Nigeria, so please do the needful…

The NIS could have used this video as a PR material. This video could pass as a message that despite them being member of a paramilitary service, they are humans and as such deliver their duties in the best humanly form. But nah, the leaders are deliberately dull.
