While the notion “it’s just social media, nothing serious” exists, again and again, we’ve seen the internet prove its not just Social Media. Social media, particularly Twitter, has been an agent of change in recent times.
Recently, social media was also used to serve justice in a case now known as the #Immigration5.
These female officers identified as Priscilla Irabor, Catherine J. Bakura, Blessing Alfred Udida, Binti I. Attabor, and Ockiya Eneni were queried for “indecent dressing and sabotage”.
Since the news of their queries broke on the internet, several social media users intervened, insisting that it wasn’t wrong for them to participate in the challenge.
Many called it high-handedness on the part of the NIS which they also saw as a sexist and misogynistic move.
Recently, news of their re-deployment to the warring zones Yobe, Borno, and other places was on the internet.
Sensitive documents of their reassignment to troubled zones as a way of punishment for participating in the internet challenge was obtained by Newswire Reporter David Hundeyin, which he shared on twitter.

According to the memo, they were to be redeployed as follows:
— Priscilla Irabor from Lagos State Command to the Nigeria Immigration Training School, Kano (ITSK).
— Binti I. Attabor from the service headquarters in Abuja to the Yobe State Command.
— Catherine J. Bakura from Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Enugu to NIS Training School Ahoada, Rivers.
— Blessing Alfred Udida from FCT Command to Akwa Ibom Command.
— Ockiya Eneni from Combined Expatriate Residence Permit & Aliens Card Production facility to Borno Command.
They were to report their new bases within seven (7) days with their own resources despite the ongoing interstate travel ban/lockdown in the country.
However, after the news broke, many Twitter users called on the NIS to review the move as it was an injustice against the ladies.
Musician Folarin Falana aka Falz, the convener of the #Bobdaddychallenge also swung into action, writing to the NIS to review its stance.

On Friday, the NIS responded that the re-deployment has been suspended pending the completion of an investigation on the issue.

The attention of the Comptroller General Muhammad Babandede MFR has been drawn to some trending matters on some social media platforms regarding the deployment of some of our Personnel to some Formations across the country.
