The United Nations has revealed that musician, Oladapo Oyebanjo aka D’Banj, is not a United Nations Youth Ambassador for Peace.

The Director of Information, United Nations Information Centre for Nigeria, Joseph Kayanja, said this during an email chat with The PUNCH on Wednesday.

In 2012, D’Banj’s publicists said that the musician was the first Nigerian to become a UN Youth Ambassador for Peace.

An online petition kicked off calling on the UN to str*p the musician of the title, following the r*pe allegations leveled against D’Banj by Seyitan Babatayo. Over 22,000 people have signed the petition on Change.org as of 24th June 2020.

In an email sent to The PUNCH, The UN revealed D’Banj was never at any time given the title of an ambassador.

“I would like to confirm that the said Mr. Oladapo Oyebanjo aka D’Banj is NOT a UN Ambassador. The title was accorded to him by an obscure UN youth association which has nothing to do with the United Nations. I hope this clarifies.” The email read in part.

Meanwhile, Seyitan recently published a press statement. The statement reveals that on 18th June she was intimidated by D’banj and his team to retract her statements.
