Nigerian Writer and journalist Gimba Kakanda recently gave a detailed critic of the acting prowess of Nollywood sweethearts, Genevieve Nnaji and Adesua Etomi.
The journalist took to Twitter to share his opinion, comparing the talent and range of Genevieve Nnaji and Adesua Etomi to Mercy Johnson and stating that of the three, Mercy Johnson is definitely the better actress.
According to Kakanda, Nnaji is an average actress in his books and Etomi is just a less popular Genevieve with fewer movie credits.
He praised Mercy Johson for being a versatile actress who can take on any role, and deserves to be studied in Universities.

I watched Sugar Rush when it hit the cinema, and I didn’t find Adesua Etomi’s acting underwhelming as some have observed. She’s your everyday Nollywood actress, nothing spectacular but commendable. It’s too soon to judge her fairly because we haven’t seen the extent of her range.

Adesua is yet to be stretched in the fashion of, say, the incredibly talented Mercy Johnson. She’s unlikely to have Mercy’s range, and talent, but her difference with actresses like Genevieve is the one between six and half a dozen. She’s a Genevieve with less movies and stardom.

Mercy can play any role excellently: rich girl, poor, mad woman, jealous girlfriend, armed robber, church girl, cultust, name it. I think she should be a course of study for Drama or Theatre Arts students, if that isn’t happening already.

Well, Twitter users were quick to react stating that saying Genevieve is miles ahead of the star, Adesua Etomi and that any attempt to compare the two is an insult on her accolades as a veteran actor. Some also praised Adesua Etomi as they listed some films she was extraordinary in.

Adesua is a beautiful woman and a good Actress but comparing her to Genevieve, is disrespectful

It’s unfair to compare Genevieve who’s put in 2decades into acting to Adesua who’s, comparatively, a newbie. Both are very good actors, to sy the least, but Adesua needs much more consistent years into her craft to earn a comparison with Jay. You don’t compare Ronaldo to Haaland. pic.twitter.com/UFQgjeXCuA

Anyone who says Adesua isn’t a good actor is a hater. They may not even know it themselves. But that’s the only reason you’d watch all her role interpretations then come with a conclusion like that. It’s either conscious or subconscious hating.

‘The Set Up’, ‘Knocking on Heaven’s Door’, ‘The Wedding Party’, ‘Arbitration’, ‘Sugar Rush’…etc.
Adesua is a phenomenal actress and easily finds her spot with the 1% of the 1%!!

There were those with a different opinion altogether saying both Genevieve and Adesua were average actresses and that Mercy Johnson was the actress with a better range than both of them.
See their reactions below:
If truly u watch Nollywood movies, you will know Mercy is a better actress, its not debatable.

Mercy Johnson is a better actress above Adesua and Genevieve. If you say otherwise then you are being bias.
In physical expressivity, vocal projection, clarity of speech and emotional facility.
You can’t compare. Mercy Johnson will give it to you anyhow you want it.

What’s your take on the issue?. Do you have a favourite amongst the three actresses? Is it also healthy to do a comparison on social media?
