In September 2020, Microsoft hosted its Ignite event as an all-virtual experience due to the global coronavirus pandemic, here is a summary of key announcements. The company had said that despite the challenges, it allowed them connect to more partners and customers worldwide.
At this year’s Ignite event, it announced new updates to solutions and services for its partners. Some of these key announcements are pointed out in a blog post by Catherine Boeger, General Manager, Microsoft 365. They are;
— Azure Communication Services launch. With this, developers can build rich communication experiences on the familiar platform that Microsoft Teams uses. Azure Communication Services can synchronise chat and SMS messaging-based workflows, telephony, and video.
Also, it encrypts all communications with a built-in security with Transport Layer Security (TLS) and compliance coverage, including HIPPA, GDPR, and more.
— Improvements in Microsoft Power Platform. These are significant changes that allow professional developers to mix and match low-code tools with code-first capabilities and distribute them through Microsoft Teams for massive scale. It is also now easier to use.
Microsoft also announced its collaboration with GitHub, as well as integrations with Azure API management and Azure Bot framework.

— Microsoft Teams feature updates. With the growing reliance on virtual collaboration, the software was improved to make meetings online better. These capabilities make it easier to prepare, conduct, and recap Microsoft Teams meetings.
Additionally, it got a Together mode feature that brings new background scenes. The software then got a Breakout rooms feature as well.
— Microsoft Defender new branding. The company merged solutions across Microsoft 365 security and Azure security. This enables the software to deliver more comprehensive offers on the market. The merger empowers security professionals with both XDR and cloud-native SIEM tools.
Additionally, Microsoft announced a new dashboard that will show customers which resources are and are not protected. It also expanded threat protect capabilities.
— Windows Virtual Desktop enhancements. The improvements will make Microsoft Teams audio/video updates better. It will also simplify deployment and come with support. The company will roll out the updates by the end of 2020.
There will be future updates like Microsoft Endpoint Manager support for Windows 10 multisession; new integration with Azure Monitor, providing customers with a workbook that captures all the relevant monitoring insights and provides rich visualizations to identify and troubleshoot issues quickly; and the ability to add application layers from the Azure portal, helping customers onboard applications quickly.
