The Nigerian Police has begun an investigation on Kannywood actress Rahama Sadau over controversial photos she posted on Twitter.Kannywood: Sabbin zafafan hotunan Rahama Sadau ya bar baya da kura

According to Premium Times, the Inspector General Of Police Mohammed Adamu mandated police action to ensure the backlash caused by the offending photos does not degenerate and breach public peace in Northern Nigeria.

In a letter, the IGP instructed the Kaduna Police Commissioner, Umar Muri to look into the issue “proactively.” Part of the letter read:

“I am to convey the directive of the Inspector General of Police that you treat proactively with a view to ensuring that the development does not result in any act that could threaten public peace and security. The Inspector-General of Police further directs that you furnish him with updates accordingly,”

The letter was also in response to a petition written by one Lawal Gusau who claimed the backless photo incurred blasphemy on the Holy Prophet Mohammed.

“Sir, I am writing to inform you that Rahama Sadau a Kannywood actress through her controversial picture has angered many people and if not quickly looked into could degenerate into a serious crisis,” his petition read.

Meanwhile, On Saturday, November 6th, a news outlet, Film Magazine reported Rahama Sadau was prevented from traveling to Dubai with her family. She was asked to answer the summons from the Kaduna Police Commissioner first.

The Rahama Sadau saga has since sparked conversations on social media. Many wonder if Nigeria is still a secular state. Many have also described the move by the IGP as totally irrelevant, bordering on intimidation and bullying.
