News began circulating in July 2019 that a woman would be replacing Daniel Craig in the next Bond movie. This led to backlash on the internet as some trolls did not take the news very well and had something to say about it, loudly.

No doubt because 007 since inception has always been played by white, British men.

Reacting to the backlash in 2019, The Captian Marvel star said she was undeterred.

It doesn’t dishearten me. It makes me feel quite sad for some people because their opinions, they’re not even from a mean place—they’re actually from a sad place,” she said in November of 2019. “It’s not about me. People are reacting to an idea, which has nothing to do with my life.”

She recently confirmed she will be the first black woman to play 007 in the next Bond film, “No Time To Die.”

Lashana LynchLashana Lynch shared the news with Harpers Baazar Magazine.

“I am one Black woman. If it were another Black woman cast in the role, it would have been the same conversation. She would have got the same attacks, the same abuse,” she said. “I just have to remind myself that the conversation is happening and that I’m a part of something that will be very, very revolutionary.”

She plays Nomi, a character who picks up the 007 role while Bond is exiled in Jamaica. Lynch shared with Harpers Bazaar that she worked closely with the writer to bring a “a fresh female perspective” that was “subtly drawn, believable, perhaps even a little awkward.”

Hopefully, this change will bring a fresh twist to the Bond series that it so needs.
