The latest Vivaldi snapshot has launched today with technical preview versions of Vivaldi Mail, Vivaldi Feed Reader and Vivaldi Calendar all built right into the browser. This snapshot is the first version to become available with these new tools; although they need to be enabled.

The new Vivaldi Mail is a fully-fledged email too; and it can be customised similarly to Thunderbird. According to Jon von Tetzchner, most people maintain two email addresses; and with Vivaldi Mail, you have the chance to take that number up to as many as you’d like. The Vivaldi Mail is seen as a spiritual successor to the email client that shipped in Opera years ago before it changed direction and simplified the browser.

The new feed reader can be accessed from the mail tab on the Vivaldi sidebar. News items from sources that you’re subscribed to will be marked in bold and have a little dot to show that they’re unread, clicking on them will bring up the text and images of the content but not the rest of the page elements.

You can include new RSS feeds by visiting a website and clicking on the feed button in the URL bar. The feed reader also supports the OPML format so you can import your feeds from your existing reader to Vivaldi.

Finally, the Vivaldi Calendar has been designed specially for power users. Unlike some other calendars that strive to keep things simple and in doing so, hide important details, Vivaldi Calendar puts them front and centre. Vivaldi Calendar has three different views that users can choose: the minimal view shows only the event title; the full view shows all of the event data in the main view; as well as the compact view that gives some information but has a cap on the amount of text that can be shown. The calendar features keyboard shortcuts; browser integration to easily add events; and comes with its own panel on the sidebar for easy access.
