Fitbit is offering replacements to owners of its Sense smartwatch. The wearables company is contacting some owners of the smartwatch; primarily to offer replacements after discovering a bug affecting its electrocardiogram (ECG) readings.

Users have reported receiving emails from the company; warning that their devices are affected by an unspecified “hardware issue” on Fitbit forums.

The company confirms that the issue specifically affects its ECG functionality. It also says that the problem affects less than 900 devices globally. In the emails, the company asks the affected users to return the smartwatch to Fitbit and promising a replacement device free of charge.

Fitbit Sense’s ECG app along with its stress detection and temperature tracking is one of the dominant differences it has over the Versa 3.

The bug affects the ECG app on a small number of Sense devices. The bug means that the Fitbit ECG app can incorrectly display an “inconclusive” result during readings. One reason for this issue may be that Fitbit released the ECG app one month after Sense’s launch and was not available at the time of the launch.

In dealing with the issue, the company has released updates to add new features like the ECG app and support for Google Assistant. It’s also now replacing devices with faulty hardware.

Fitbit also confirms that issue affects no other devices, or future Sense smartwatches shipments. It also says it is contacting affected users directly to issue replacements.
