Facebook is taking its campaign against the new privacy changes Apple is bringing to iOS 14 into second gear with a second full-page newspaper ad. The new ad claims Apple’s iOS 14 privacy changes “will change the internet as we know it”.

Facebook also claims in the ads that the changes will force websites and blogs “to start charging you subscription fees;” or add in-app purchases to generate revenue due to a lack of personalised ads.

The social media company is following up a similar full-page newspaper ad in The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and The Washington Post. “We’re standing up to Apple for small businesses everywhere,” the headline on the ad read.

Apple is planning to make privacy changes to iOS 14 early in 2021 that will require developers to ask for permission to gather data and track users across mobile apps and websites on an iPhone or iPad. Developers like Facebook have the option to explain to users why they should allow tracking within the prompt.

Facebook claims that the real issue is the potential impact on small businesses, however, it seems like it is more concerned about its lucrative ad business.

Apple begs to disagree with Facebook and its newspaper ad. “We believe that this is a simple matter of standing up for our users. Users should know when their data is being collected and shared across other apps and websites — and they should have the choice to allow that or not,” an Apple spokesperson said in response to Facebook’s first full-page newspaper ad.
