Google has acknowledged an issue with the Pixel 4A 5G touchscreens and is working on a solution. Some users have reported that their devices are not responding consistently to taps on the lower part of the screen.
The issue majorly affects users who use three-button navigation instead of the swipes. According to Android Police, the complaints seem to have started after the December 2020 security patch was released.
Google issued its response in a Pixel support forum post. The company says it will fix the problem ”in an upcoming software update”.
“Hi Pixel Community,
We are aware of this issue and a fix will be included in an upcoming software update”. the post said. However, that might take a little while as the January security patch didn’t address the issue according to Android Police.

The January patch addressed some other bugs and issues with the security update. It also fixed an audio bug that caused crackling sounds in some situations.
For now, Google says Pixel 4A 5G users can work around the issue with these instructions on tapping navigation controls:
— When tapping icons on the edge of the screen, tap the center of the button or the side of the button/icon furthest away from the edge of the display.
— When tapping icons, including the navigation buttons on the bottom of your screen, use the tip of your finger or thumb instead. This will help improve touch recognition.
