When Comedienne Princess opened up about her failed marriage in a TVC interview saying it was her fault, film lovers knew they had to see “Body Bag “, a short film that details her short-lived marriage to Jeremiah Adeshola.

According to Princess, the film is about her marriage which took place in 2013. In the film, She meets Adebola (Ibrahim Chatta) through her friend Jumai (Ronke Odusanya) who match-makes them. Adebola presents himself as her biggest fan and doesn’t hesitate to propose. However months into the relationship, she finds out that he has self-esteem issues, always feeling that her celebrity status will cause her to control him in their marriage. It was obvious that they had to work on their relationship due to their continuous quarrels, but according to Princess “Invitation has been sent”

In terms of the cast, Princess did a good job to use the right characters to tell her story. She also used the film to touch other vices such as domestic violence that is detrimental to the marriage institution. The subtitling was also on point.

However, the film had a few lapses. There were areas where the story was disjointed. For example, the opening scenes related an account of Princess’s close friend who died from internal injuries before her first marriage. A background story before the burial would have been appropriate. Also, at the end of the film when Princess had already decided to leave the country to escape bloggers and bad publicity about her marriage, she loses a friend due to domestic violence. Maybe the film should have had an ending that wasn’t about someone else.

Overall, Princess did a good job telling her story in “Body Bag”. It takes a lot of courage to put personal experiences in pictures, especially in a society that frowns at divorce.
