Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold recently took to Twitter to advocate against body-shaming after a Twitter user criticised Kemi Smallz bre*sts.
Body shaming is the practice of making critical, potentially humiliating comments about a person’s body size or weight. This practice has become more rampant on social media, with trolls especially directing it at women.

This recent issue came up when a Twitter user trolled Nigerian OAP Kemi Smallz after she shared a photo of herself. The picture showed the OAP wearing a shirt that showed her cleavage. The body shamer wrote, “Do you unintentionally buttoned dose fallen breasts.”

To this tweet, Smallz then responded with her own comeback, schooling the internet troll in the process. She wrote:
Yes, I Deliberately, wilfully, purposefully, consciously, intentionally did . I have the perkiest titties my darling but then again, so the f**k what if they are fallen? 🤔 https://t.co/KzP876tv9Z

The body-shaming tweet elicited some reactions, one of which was that of Adekunle Gold. He said:
“The way people abuse women for having fallen b****t, you’d think a woman is the reason their b****t is ‘fallen’.”

This practice of body shaming is not new, however. Various celebrities have come under unsolicited, negative comments about their appearance from various people.
Nevertheless, more and more celebrities have come out to advocate against and tackle online body shaming. The effects of these negative comments could lead to various issues, including depression, low self-esteem and insecurity.
A couple of months ago, ex BBNaija housemates Tacha and Jackye recounted how they were body-shamed. In a video produced by BBC pidgin, Toke Makinwa, the ex BBNaija housemates, Lydia Forson and also Temi Otedola explained why we need to shun body-shaming.
