Alexa is going where no Voice Ai has ever gone before; to the moon! In an announcement, Amazon said it had also worked on project Callisto.
The project is a ‘technology demonstration payload embedded into NASA’s Orion spacecraft for the Artemis I mission.’ American aerospace corporation Lockheed Martin worked on it together with Amazon, and global IT giant, Cisco.
“Lockheed Martin chose Alexa for this technology demonstration to learn how voice technology and AI can assist astronauts on future deep space flights,” Amazon wrote in its statement. “Artemis I is the first in a series of NASA missions that will land the first woman and first person of color on the Moon and lay the groundwork for future missions to Mars.”

Although it will be an uncrewed mission, virtual crew members will be remotely testing the project’s capabilities from the Mission Control Center at Johnson Space Center.
It will also be an interactive mission with a QnA session. “Participants will be able to ask questions about the status of Orion and test the ability to control connected devices onboard the spacecraft,” Amazon added. “Interactions will be transmitted to Orion and back using NASA’s Deep Space Network.”
If you’re interested, you can follow the demonstration from home using an Alexa-enabled device with Artemis I. This will mark the first in a series of increasingly complex missions that will enable human exploration of the Moon and Mars, NASA explains.
The rocket will launch on 29 August 2022 unless the plan changes.
