Apple appears to have finally got its always-on display tech right for iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, after mastering the same feature on its Watch Series 5. According to sources, the feature is part of iOS 16’s would-be surprises at the September launch.

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg explains that for the always-on display to work on iPhones, Apple may need to add the low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) display to the coming phones. The LTPO display is a low-powered screen tech that prevents devices from eating up battery life while remaining on always-on mode.

However, personally, adding this kind of feature to iPhones, giving their historic battery issues, could spell trouble. Although, it is likely that it will be optional to turn it on or off.

That said, it is vital to note that besides the Apple watch mentioned at the beginning, a lot of Android phones have supported always-on display feature for some years now. In fact, the feature has adapted so much over the years that on Samsung, you can now opt to see the time, battery level, widgets, and so on while the phone is locked.

Additionally, the feature was rumoured to be coming to iPhone 13 but somehow, the producers could not make it work. It seems that Apple is not prepared to do it.

With the recent news that the company may not make the September release deadline due to manufacturing problems, it may take longer to get hands on the iPhone 14 and its several awaited features.
