Android Antivirus apps may actually be putting your devices at more risk instead of protecting it. New research revealed that some Android antivirus apps are doing the direct opposite of what they are supposedly asked to. It discovered that a lot of the popular antivirus apps were not particularly eliminating malware threats on Android gadgets.

The researchers used 21 Android antivirus apps to conduct the tests. The result showed that only about 10 of them could find malware. It discovered that the others could not do any of these things. To make things worse, one of them had the potential to make the user’s phone contacts accessible to hackers.

An Australian company was able to carry out a different round of tests. There, they discovered that less than 10% of Android antivirus apps could provide complete detection of potential threats. This particular test, conducted on 250 Android antivirus apps, showed that only 21 could protect against malware.

Some Android Antiviruses Make Your Device Vulnerable

These antivirus apps have proved that users cannot trust them. However, due to the risk of virus exploitation on Android device, users are left with no choice but to get these antiviruses. Although, this would mean that Android users will have to be more vigilant about the antimalware they get. Especially as it seems like they are not able to feel safe without them.

We advise Android users to check reviews to be able to see what apps will be worth getting. Particularly as the antivirus apps usually lie in their ads. Interestingly, users cannot even trust reviews as some reviewers pay for positive reviews or post reviews themselves.

It would be better if you can get an antivirus app that isn’t doing much. But if it exposes your device, then it is doing worse than it should. Experts suggest that users should be careful when they are installing antiviruses. If possible, seek expert opinions.

However, it looks like it is not safe to keep sensitive information on Android devices. This is because there is too much security risk attached.
