Apple has announced that it is discontinuing the original, full-size HomePod speaker. The company said it will now focus its speaker efforts on the HomePod mini, in a statement.
“HomePod mini has been a hit since its debut last fall, offering customers amazing sound, an intelligent assistant, and smart home control all for just $99. We are focusing our efforts on HomePod mini. We are discontinuing the original HomePod, it will continue to be available while supplies last through the Apple Online Store, Apple Retail Stores, and Apple Authorized Resellers. Apple will provide HomePod customers with software updates and service and support through Apple Care,” its full statement read.

Although the full-size HomePod had great sound quality, it got criticism for its $349 price tag during its launch. Apple reduced the price to $299 in April 2019, and launched the HomePod mini in 2020, selling it at $99.
Sales of the HomePod are reportedly low which could be a major reason for the decision to discontinue them. However, Apple has already sold out on the Space Grey HomePod according to its online store.
Apple’s reasons for discontinuing the full-size HomePod in favour of the in makes sense from a business point of view. This simply means it can better focus on what the market prefers. If you still want to buy the full-size HomePod, it’s still available, at least while it’s in stock.
