Apple has announced that it is closing 14 more retail stores in Florida due to another spike in COVID-19 cases. The closure will mean that the iPhone maker will be left with just two open retail locations in the state.

Bloomberg had reported that the company temporarily closed a total of 11 stores across Florida, Arizona, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Apple only began reopening its US stores in May 2020 after there appeared to be a decline in the number of pandemic cases.

It conducted temperature checks and required both customers and employees to wear face masks in some stores. There were other stores offering only curbside and storefront services, with their halls to customers.

Apple’s statement is similar to its statement last week regarding the initial reclosures.

An Apple spokesperson told Bloomberg that, “Due to current COVID-19 conditions in some of the communities we serve, we are temporarily closing stores in these areas. We take this step with an abundance of caution as we closely monitor the situation and we look forward to having our teams and customers back as soon as possible”.

Many US States had been relaxing the lockdown rules and gradually reopening to the public. However, on 24th June 2020, the US recorded 38,672 positive COVID-19 cases. This figure represents a record-high number for a single day.

Apple has now closed 32 stores in the US. The number represents 10 percent of its total number of stores in the country. The iPhone maker has about 272 stores in the US alone.
