Apple’s digital keys are reportedly coming to Hyundai cars, this feature is already available for BMW vehicles. This is according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s “Carkey” feature will be coming to Hyundai’s Luxury Genesis 2022 cars.
German’s automaker BMW is the only brand with the “Carkey” feature, which allows users to unlock their cars using their phones. This technology is currently available on iPhone 11 smartphones and higher, they have the U1 chip enabling it.
Hyundai already has iOS apps that support the unlocking and starting of its cars. The digital key feature would make the process entirely seamless. Although, we are not sure if this new feature would make use of the iPhone NFC or U1 chip.
Well, Hyundai Motor has earlier announced that it is no longer in discussions with Apple to produce autonomous electric cars. The announcement comes just one month after it confirmed early-stage talks with the tech giant.

“We are receiving requests for cooperation in joint development of autonomous electric vehicles from various companies, but they are at early stage and nothing has been decided,” the automakers said. Its announcement is in compliance with stock market rules requiring regular updates to investors regarding market rumours.
“We are not having talks with Apple on developing autonomous vehicles,” it further said, according to Reuters.
Apple’s digital car key feature was first available in 2020, with BMW adding the feature on some select cars. If Hyundai eventually gets the feature, we are certain some Kia models will too. Hyundai and Kia are sister companies and majorly share the same platform.
