Apple Gets 220,000 Square Feet Office In Manhattan Art Deco Building

Apple finally gets an imposing New York presence after completing a lease deal with Macy’s for new office space in the Art Deco building in Midtown Manhattan that measures up to 220,000 square feet.

Last year, the company had been set to sign a lease for space in Pittsburg that measured up to 90,000 square feet. However, now, according to iMore, Apple has gotten itself a space in New York City.

The space provided by Macy’s decision to move its headquarters to Long Island City is quite an advantage. One reason is that it gives Apple close proximity to Madison Square Garden and the Penn Station railway hub. Both of which are among the busiest places in New York City.

The deal gets Apple the 11th to 14th floors of the Art Deco building that is located in Midtown Manhattan. This central part of the City has such iconic buildings like the  Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the Hudson Yards Redevelopment Project, the headquarters of the United Nations, Grand Central Terminal, and Rockefeller Center, as well as Broadway and Times Square.

Thus, it is its choicest part. The detail containing the value of the deal was not reported. However, a New York Post article mentioned that it is for five years. Apple has the option of pulling out after the years elapse and if they do, it will fall back in Macy’s laps as they have leased the building until 2035.

This could possibly put an end to Apple’s search for a permanent New York City office. The company had been on the lookout ever since its staff size became too big to occupy its current office space in Flatiron District. It also has other locations it uses temporarily.

Apple’s new office space is much bigger than the previous one that measured 52,000 square feet.
