An 11-year-old girl in California, USA recently suffered partial burns after an iPhone 6 exploded in her hands.

 

According to a news report by 23ABC, Kayla Ramos said, “I was sitting down and I had my phone in my hand, and then I saw sparks flying everywhere and I just threw it on a blanket.”

 

“I was right here on the bed and the phone managed to burn through this blanket and make these holes,” she added.

 

Ramos also explained that she quickly dropped it to her bad and blanket which took most of the hit. She confirmed that she majorly uses the phone to watch YouTube videos.

 

 

The iPhone 6 looked almost unrecognisable after the incident. It also came apart, putting the display panel in full view. It had burns marks all over its body, and now Apple says it is investigating the report.

 

Ramos’s mother, upon contacting Apple Support, has been asked to send images of the burned phone. She was also told that a new iPhone 6 will be shipped to her while they investigate the issue.

 

Why did it happen?

Apple says that it could be overheating that caused the iPhone to catch fire. They say this could be as a result of using unauthorised third-party chargers on the phone. They also say external damage and unauthorised repairs could be responsible.

 

However, Ramos has said she had not done any of these things that could warrant the accident. Apple, in turn, is yet to speak on the outcome of the investigation. The reason for the phone’s blow-up is therefore yet to be identified.

 

 

Meanwhile, this case is not in isolation. In May 2018, an iPhone caught fire and exploded in a store in the United States. It was caught on a surveillance camera that the fire was sudden.

 

It is also worthy for iPhone users to take precaution. Usually, the phone would warn you when its temperature rises beyond a certain level. This is especially when the phone is getting a lot of use under intense heat. These messages should not be ignored and the phone should be kept in a cool place to cool off.
