Apple is planning to make wholesale changes to the design of its MacBook Pro for the third quarter of 2021, according to a research note written by TF International Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo and reported on by MacRumors, 9to5Mac, and Apple Insider.

Kuo says this is the first major redesign of the MacBook Pro since the beginning of the current generation in 2016.

The new MacBook Pro will reportedly have squared-off sides like the iPad Pro and the iPhone 12. Already, its current design has sharp edges, however, it seems that Apple will make the top and bottom panels flatter.

The new model will also reportedly come in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. They are to both feature Apple-designed Arm processors, with no Intel options.

Kuo says the laptops will have a heat pipe system very similar to the current 16-inch MacBook Pro. This will give the device more thermal headroom, enabling higher performance. Bloomberg also reports that the new Macbook Pro models in addition to the new design will have “brighter, higher contrast” displays.

Kuo also believes the new MacBook Pro PCs will replace the OLED Touch Bar, with physical function keys. He says Apple will provide a wider range of ports, thus reducing the need for dongles.

Also, he believes that the MagSafe magnetic charging connector will make its return. With all Kuo has described, it seems that the design of the new Macbook Pro will be very different from the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Apple’s M1 processor released in November 2020.
