Apple has announced that it would reclose another 30 retail stores across seven states as the US records a spike in COVID-19 cases. This brings the total number of closed stores to 77 which is more than 25 percent of its US stores.

Apple had started reopening its retail stores in the US as many states had started easing lockdown protocols. The iPhone maker now has to reverse those decisions for some of its 271 retail stores in the US.

“Due to current COVID-19 conditions in some of the communities we serve, we are temporarily closing stores in these areas. We take this step with an abundance of caution as we closely monitor the situation and we look forward to having our teams and customers back as soon as possible,” Apple said in a statement to CNBC.

Stores in Alabama, California, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, and Oklahoma are to be affected by the closures. Most of Apple’s retail stores in Arizona, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah will still remain closed as part of Apple’s earlier wave of closures according to The Verge. 9to5Mac also reports that Apple has reclosed some of its oversea locations.

Apple says it is constantly monitoring local health data in determining the stores that it will reopen or reclose. All the reopened stores also require that staff and customers wear masks. This is in addition to temperature checks and the comprehensive social distancing measures it had earlier outlined.
