Apple Watch has been praised for saving a woman’s life in Maine by leading doctors to discover a deadly tumour early enough for surgery.

According to AppleInsider’s report, the wearable gadget gave off several notifications that the woman’s heart was in atrial fibrillation. Typically, this could mean that she was having irregular and abnormally fast heart rate, with common symptoms being shortness of breath and dizziness.

The 67-year-old woman named Kim Durkee had first ignored the warnings for two nights in a row. However, she explained that the numbers were too high on the third night and made her uncomfortable.

She went to the hospital to confirm whether the Apple Watch was reading her heart rate correctly or not. On getting there, doctors confirmed the readings and discovered that she had myxoma — a rare type of tumour that grows fast and could lead to a stroke by constricting blood supply to the heart.

After a five-hour surgery, the four-centimetres tumour was removed on June 27, and she was able to return home after 11 days at the hospital.

Since the story broke, Durkee has become an Apple Watch testifier and has spoken to other users about how lucky she was to have heeded her watch’s warnings. Her story joins the growing number of testimonies where the wearable gadget turned into a lifesaver.
