You just might be able to use Face ID on to unlock your Macbook just like a lot of iPhone and iPad models. A code reportedly discovered by 9to5Mac in the latest beta of macOS Big Sur seems to suggest that Face ID could be coming to Macs soon.
According to the report, the code in the beta references Apple’s codename for the TrueDepth camera. The TrueDepth camera is what facilitates Face ID in Face ID-capable devices like some iPhones and iPads, but no Macbook has it at the moment.
However, the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro currently have biometric authentication through Touch ID.

The code also reportedly reveals the terms “FaceDetect” and “BioCapture”. Both of which seem to suggest biometric facial recognition. Additionally, 9to5Mac reports that they are very similar to what is obtainable on other Apple Face ID-enabled devices.
Face ID on Macbooks could prove quite important on the next version of Safari, which will come with iOS 14 and macOS Big Sur. This is because the new version will allow users to login on supported websites using just Touch ID or Face ID.
In addition, Face ID on Macbooks will likely be very interesting. For sure it will make signing much easier, however, Apple is still developing the technology. With new Macbook models coming later this year, it is still very unclear as to how they will operate.
The new Macbooks will also be powered by a new A11 Bionic chip. Apple is moving away from Intel chips to the A11 chips which will help the PCs consume less battery power.
