Nigerian musician and music executive politician Banky W has faulted the continued physical registration of National Identity Number (NIN) despite the continuous spike in Covid-19 cases in the country.
Banky W real name Bankole Wellington reacted to the situation after a photo of the crowd at NIMC office Lagos was posted on Pulse’s Instagram page.
Posting a screenshot of the original post, Banky W wrote;
“In the middle of the pandemic. This is how our Nigerian government has its citizens queuing up to get their NIN numbers. Completely reckless, inconsiderate, and dangerous. Then tomorrow the NCDC will release covid infection rates and say social distancing. This country sha. Kai,” he tweeted.

Banky W also noted how irresponsible it is of the government to continue the mad scramble for NIN numbers even in the face of a second wave outbreak.
“@NCDCgov @NigeriaGov @NGRPresident This is completely irresponsible of us as a country, to insist on this mad scramble for NIN numbers in the middle of Covid’s 2nd wave. People are dying. We should be smarter/wiser/better than this for goodness sake.”

Nigeria, Lagos especially has been deviled with a consistent spike of the novel virus. The Government however insists on NIN registration which requires large amounts of people in one space, many of whom do not observe social distancing.
