Hollywood actor Ben Affleck has responded to the backlash he faced after his interview where he seemed to pin his drinking on his ex-wife and actress Jennifer Garner.
Affleck, during a chat on Jimmy Kimmell’s late-night show on December 15 said his words about his failed marriage were quoted verbatim and misconstrued.
“We talked a lot about my family, divorce and alcoholism … and how you have to be accountable and loving,” he said.
“Then I start seeing all this stuff come up on Twitter. And I was like, what is this?”
He also insisted that the media misconstrued his words for clickbait.
In a recent interview on “The Howard Stern Show,” the actor blamed his past alcohol addiction on his ex-wife.
“Part of why I started drinking was because I was trapped. was like, ‘I can’t leave because of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?’ And what I did was drank a bottle of Scotch and fell asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution,” he said.

His comments did not sit well with many as the actor was flayed on social media for trying to pin his drinking problem on Garner even though he was already battling the addiction before their marriage.
The former couple were married from 2005 to 2018. They separated in 2015. However, Garner has remained a supportive figure in his life and even helped him check into rehab in 2018 according to reports.
They share kids Violet, 16, Seraphina, 12, and Samuel, 9.
Jennifer Lopez, Affleck’s current partner is also reportedly unhappy with his comments during the interview according to a Page Six source.
”[Lopez] is p**sed. She is getting pulled into this because she is dating him, she doesn’t want to be dragged into this,‘ the source said.
“She has met Jennifer Garner, She is trying to get to know her and Ben’s kids. It’s reckless and cavalier of him.”
But another source told the publication, ‘This is simply not true and the focus is on the children.’
