17th April 2019 marked the unofficial World Queen B Day. Beyoncé dropped a 40-track live album to the surprise of everyone. This came right on time for the release of her new Coachella concert film on Netflix, Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé.

There were rumours that the flawless queen of the beyhive had a mysterious “B7” album coming up. But just as fans were tuning to the premiere of the Netflix documentary, everyone’s #WCW released the album on streaming services.

Shortly after midnight in the US, Beyoncé’s new album became available on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and Tidal.

Making history with Beychella

The live album, which happens to be her seventh, featured all the songs Queen Bey performed at her 2018 headline performance at Coachella, fondly called Beychella. It featured a marching band in tribute to America’s historically black colleges. The California music festival had one of the best Beyoncé performances we had ever seen. Single Ladies elevated to the energy of a massive college football half-time show, and Crazy in Love had a full-on drumline.

The album also features a brand-new bonus track at the very end. Beyoncé added a song which appears to be the closing credit of the Netflix film. It is a studio cover of a song Destiny’s Child previously covered in 1997. The original song is Frankie Beverly and Maze’s Before I Let Go from 1981.

This goes to prove that Beyoncé has mastered the skill of surprising her fans, and we are very entertained. She hit her fans with a surprise album in 2016 when she dropped Lemonade.

The Netflix film captures how Beyoncé made history with an epic legendary performance as she became the first African American woman to headline Coachella. The rehearsals, preparations, and the occasional cameo by Destiny’s Child members and Jay Z were also featured in the film.
