After setting the record for 19 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” has finally been dethroned by Billie Eilish’s “bad guy”.
Billie Eilish earns her first number one on the Billboard Hot 100, as “bad guy” rises from the No. 2 position. The song reigns after spending nine total weeks at the runner-up spot, the most for any title before reaching the summit in the Hot 100’s history.
Billie Eilish additionally claims the honour of conquering the longest-leading Hot 100 all-time, as it halts the 19-week domination of Lil Nas X‘s “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus.
The track stayed at the number two position for nine weeks running, making it the longest a number one single has ever hung out in second place before ascending to the top. Apparently, the single’s longevity may also have the remix rule to thank, as Eilish released a “Bad Guy” remix featuring Justin Bieber in July.

“Old Town Road” became the longest-running number-one song in history when it hit the 17-week mark in July. It broke the previous record of 16 weeks. The record was shared by “One Sweet Day” (by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men) and “Despacito” (by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, featuring Justin Bieber).
Billie Eilish has officially taken over the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100, as “bad guy” rises from number after spending nine total weeks at the runner-up spot.
