Biodun Fatoyinbo: COZA Pastor Reportedly In Police Custody

Founder and Senior Pastor of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, is reportedly being questioned by the police over the r*pe allegations levelled against him by Busola Dakolo.

The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, said this during an interview with The PUNCH on Tuesday. Responding to a question, Mba said, “Yes, he [Fatoyinbo] is in our custody.”

The press asked if the police had detained the alleged r*pist. The Force spokesman said it was too early to say. He also said the investigation of Fatoyinbo was proof that the police had not swept the matter under the carpet. This was the insinuation of many news outlets.

When asked why the police took so long to invite Fatoyinbo, Mba said the police wanted to get statements from several witnesses and then build a solid case before inviting him.

The police spokesman said,

“We have done a whole lot of background investigations and spoken to a whole lot of people before now. It was a deliberate investigative procedure to bring him [Fatoyinbo] last. Although, we may invite others later depending on how investigations go.

“We were not in a hurry to bring him. We wanted to have enough background information that would be used in interrogating him. The police have done an extensive investigation.”

Busola Dakolo accused Biodun Fatoyinbo of r*ping her 20 years ago while she was still a teenager.

Fatoyinbo had shunned a panel set up by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria to investigate the r**e allegations. He stated that his lawyers advised him not to appear before the panel. He stated that he assumed they would be partial and prejudiced.

The cleric in a statement last Friday, however, said he could appear before the panel after the police investigations.

The PFN had disclosed on Thursday that its probe into the allegations against Fatoyinbo was inconclusive. This was because he did not honour the invitation to appear before the panel.
