“Blood Sisters”- Let’s Talk About The Characters, Plot and Fashion

Netflix’s first original Nigerian film “Blood Sisters” dropped on the streaming network on Thursday May 5th.

Produced and directed by Mo Abudu’s EbonyLife TV this film is one that you will love to watch.

“Blood Sisters” is centered around two best friends Sarah (Ini-Dima Okojie) and Kemi (Nancy Isime). Sarah is set to marry Kola (Deyemi Okanlawon) who is an abuser. However, she changes her mind on their wedding day, a decision that upsets Kola greatly.

He tries to make her change her mind in a violent way, however he meets his end when Kemi pulls the trigger. His death leads to a series of unfortunate events that even these ladies cannot fathoms.

This film is a classic that brings both the old and new generation of Nollywood in one set. It was beautiful to see Kate Henshaw and Uche Jumbo, play the roles of mothers.

Outside the lead characters, the support actors and actresses didn’t do badly. Genoveva Umeh ( Timileyin) has suddenly become a star after playing the role of a drug addict in this film. She does her best to act as the mentally unstable child who craves for her mother’s love and seeks justice for her late brother.

There is also Wale Ojo (Inspector Obasanjo) acting as the good cop with the Chicago accent. He does his best to sanitize the police force marred by bribery and corruption.

Meanwhile some of the actors didn’t bring their A game to this film. For the records, Toke Makinwa didn’t really tick the boxes as Abasiama. Her acting looked forced and she didn’t get into character. It will be nice if she sticks to her vlogging career and let acting be.

For fashion, “Blood Sisters” paraded classy clothing. Kate Henshaw playing the role of the wealthy mother was always dressed like she was attending a MET Gala. Every other person was dressed properly for their respective roles.

Meanwhile a lot of Nigerians have slammed the 18+ scenes in this film. Actor Gabriel Afolayan and Kehinde Bankole who were a couple in this film have some adult scenes in the film.

There were also n*de shower scenes in the film. So if you are a parent , ensure you don’t watch this film with your kids. It is rated 18+ anyways.

“Blood Sisters” is a thriller you would love watching although somewhat predictable. The suspense was mild without the adrenaline rush we anticipated.
