Elon Musk Boring Company receives go-ahead to expand Las Vegas tunnels

The Boring Company, owned by Elon Musk, has just won approval that lets it expand its tunnels in Las Vegas. It will now be able to move from the Stratosphere to Fremont Street.

In response, the company Tweeted:

“Thanks to the entire team at the City of Last Vegas! Great discussion today, and TBC is excited to build a safe, convenient, and awesome transportation system in the City.”

The company’s mission is to create a traffic-free, fast mode of transportation. It is starting with a network of tunnels called the Vegas Loop, which is supposed to cover 29 miles and have 51 stops. However, as The Verge reports, only 1.7 miles have been dug, and they span the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC).

The completed loop can take people across the convention center in two minutes, a distance that takes 25 minutes to cover on foot.

When the entire Vegas Loop is completed, people can go to the various stops, board a Tesla and travel around the city underground. Below is the proposed plan for The Boring Company tunnels in Las Vegas:

Already, the company tested the viability of the tunnel at CES 2022 and managed to move between 15,000 and 17,000 passengers daily. The only negative comment was the fact that there was some traffic backup in the tunnel. Typically, it is meant to hold 70 cars at one time. Besides that, the riders commended the speed and convenience.

These particular tunnels should be fully operational by 2023, according to a statement by Steve Hill, the president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, as quoted by Las Vegas Review-Journal.
