There were speculations that ByteDance was making its smartphone because they acquired some patents from the smartphone company, Smartisan. ByteDance also reportedly brought some of the company’s employees to produce its new phone.
According to Forbes, ByteDance said: “Reports of our smartphone development strictly refer to a continuation of plans that were in place before ByteDance began working with Smartisan. The focus is on meeting the needs of Smartisan’s existing customer base in China.”
The company also made sure to clarify that the upcoming phone is not related to TikTok in any way. This means that the phone will not be a TikTok phone. However, it is expected to have features that will support TikTok and its newly introduced Gif update.
ByteDance is reportedly the most valuable start-up in the world. The company currently values at $75 billion (NGN27 trillion). Chinese start-up ByteDance along with TikTok owns news and information content platform, Toutiao.
They are also currently working on their music streaming service. This was after they released their China-based messaging app, Flipchat. The company is doing a lot of acquisitions and seems to be making its mark in the tech space.
In July they also acquired new Artificial Intelligence-generated music software, Jukedeck. The app is expected to help users adjust the length and tempo of the music uploaded on TikTok.
