Singers and lovebirds Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have ended their relationship.
According to a source close to Cabello, Mendes initiated the breakup and though she was heartbroken, the former Fifth Harmony singer agreed as she thought “it was for the best”
“It was really hard for a few days but she has been spending a lot of time with friends and keeping busy,” the insider says. “She has a huge support system and is feeling renewed now.”
The singers shared a joint statement on their social media pages announcing the end of their 2-year long relationship.
“Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever,” the singers wrote. “We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends.”

Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes started dating in July 2019 but they’d been friends before then. The singers released their first song together I Know What You Did Last Summer in 2015. In 2019, they released their second collaboration and hit track “Senorita,” just before they began dating. Their last public appearance was during the Met Gala in September where they posed for couple photos in their costumes.
According to the source Camila and Shawn are “still in communication and want to be friends,” adding that it “was not a bad breakup at all.”
“The relationship was getting stale and complacent and they decided they are better off being friends,” the source said.
