Get ready for a cheaper Disney Plus subscription in 2022

A cheaper Disney Plus subscription that supports ads will be available to users later in 2022, according to an announcement on Friday.

While the company has not revealed how much cheaper the subscription plan will be, it assures users that it will be available internationally by 2023. But first, users in the United States will enjoy it as soon as it launches in late 2022.

A standard Disney Plus sub costs $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year, and I expect that the ‘cheaper’ plan will be way lesser than this. Likely, it will compete with HBO Max’s $9.99/month ads payment and Peakcock’s $4.99 ads+limited content package.

So, you should expect the pricing to fall between $7.99 and $4.99. Also, with Netflix’s Standard plan going for $15.99 and the Basic package costing $9.99, it may be an opportunity for Disney Plus to completely obliterate competition on the pricing front.

Its Hulu arm already has an ad-supported package that will set you back $6.99, and there are speculations that the Disney Plus cheaper pricing will mirror this. As The Verge said, this price change could bring in more paying customers, which is crucial in the streaming business.

Of course, content remains king! With approximately 7,000 television episodes and 500 films (from a 2017 report) and the richness of the Disney production resume, the streaming platform will not struggle to keep users entertained.

I am curious to see what the Disney Plus revenue report for Q1 2023 will look like after implementing this cheaper subscription plan.
