China’s Xiaomi Is Now Number Two Smartphone Maker Overtaking Apple

Xiaomi has overtaken Apple to be the second-biggest smartphone maker based on Global shipments for the second quarter of 2021.

This is according to Canalys, China’s Xiaomi mow has 17% of the global market share and is not far behind Samsung’s 19% share price.

Apple now holds a 14% market share, in the 2nd quarter of the year global smartphone shipments increased 12%.

The top 5 companies all increased their year-on-year global shipments, Vivo and Oppo were just behind Apple in that sequence.

Xiaomi numbers were staggering, according to Canalys Research Manager Ben Stanton “Xiaomi is growing its overseas business rapidly.”

“For example, its shipments increased more than 300% in Latin America, 150% Africa and 50% in Western Europe. And as it grows, it evolves.

When compared to Samsung and Apple, Xiaomi’s average selling price is around 40% and 75% cheaper respectively.

The Chinese company grew +83% annually, while Apple had a sluggish +1% annual growth.

Xiaomi in a recent tweet acknowledged the figures from Canalys, on July 15, 2021
