Social networking comes with a lot of good. However, sometimes, the bad seems to outweigh the good. Netflix is now giving us another film to show us the ills of these digital times. The streaming site introduced a new series to demonstrate the evils of social networking. The series, titled “Clickbait”, will shed light on the disparities between online realities and real life.
Although, it is yet to release details about the casting and date of release. Australian filmmaker Tony Ayres is reportedly running and creating the show. He will also work with Australian Author and screenwriter, Christian White. Furthermore, Harry Potter and Once Upon A Time in Hollywood producer David Heyman will produce the series.
Ayres described “Clickbait” as a passion project that he expects will have a real global impact. The film will take a more serious look into the concept of click-baiting. For the first time, Netflix will produce the series in Victoria, Australia. The series will be shot at Melbourne’s Docklands Studios. The film was also able to get some financing from the Australian Government.
The federal government in Australia will be providing subsidy through its Location Incentive program. The Victorian state government will also provide funding through its Film Victoria Production Incentive Attraction Fund.
Australia’s minister for communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts, Paul Fletcher said:
“Securing this production will bring more than AUD $36 million (approximately ₦8.8 billion) of new international investment to our shores.” He added that it will “engage around 540 cast, crew and extras, and use the services of around 290 local businesses.”
