Neuralink is not alone in conducting weird science experiments and announcing technology that makes you do a double take.
Science and has come a long way and many of its products, like medicine, have become essential to live longer, healthy lives. However, some have resulted in further degradation of our planet home. Yet, that has not stopped the four companies listed here from dabbling into seriously weird science experiments.
Four companies undertaking the weirdest science experiments
1. Neuralink (neurotechnology)
Given the high-profile of one of its founders, Elon Musk, Neuralink is the most popular company on this list. What does it do? The firm is focused on computer interfaces that can be implanted into the brain to monitor and control the nervous system. Although it says its human trials is just months away, so far, it has been subject of several public outcry and investigation by animal welfare organisations. Reports claimed that of the 23 monkeys it has experimented on, 15 had to be euthanised due to the processes and its repercussions.
2. Weizmann Institute of Science (reporduction)
Built on years of research, the Weizmann Institute of Science built a mechanical uterus and grew mouse embryos outside the uterus for several days back in 2021. Then, in 2022, they were able to use stem cells to grow embryos. In the future, the science could be used to not only carry human babies artificially but grow a child from stem cells, which can be extracted from a bone marrow.
3. Alcor (cryonics)
Alcor Life Extension Foundation is a company that researches and preserves human corpses and brains through freezing, which is known as cryonics. The idea is that someday, there would be a scientific breakthrough that helps us restore dead people to life. The company has faced criticisms and lawsuits, usually from family members of their clients.
4. Sourasky Medical Center (aesthetic surgery)
The department of reconstructive and aesthetic surgery at the Sourasky Medical Center developed a way for breasts to never sag. This procedure is much less invasive than the implants that many do today and only requires two small incisions. The researchers believe that their technology will do away with every bothering about perfect bras for rack support.
Science is outstanding and intriguing, however, when it is unusual, it comes across as weird as you can see from this list.
