Nigeria has again confirmed 10 new cases of coronavirus in the country and this is in Lagos as well. The minister of Health Mr Osiagie Ehanire made the announcement through his official Twitter page.
The Tweet reads:
#Nigeria has recorded 10 new cases of #COVID19 in Lagos and FCT.
That is a total of 22 cases in #Nigeria: Lagos 16, FCT 3, Ekiti 1 & Ogun 2. 2 have been discharged.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 22. However, two of the confirmed cases have already discharged. The minister in his statement assured the general public of the government readiness to combat the virus outbreak. He wrote
“The Port Health Services of the Federal Ministry of Health has heightened screening at all air, land and sea points of entry into Nigeria and adapted the protocols to reflect the travel guidance issued by the Presidential Task Force on the Control of Coronavirus (COVID-19),
“The National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) led by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) supported by partners continues to coordinate response activities and strengthen preparedness capacity across states nationwide.”

He added that the government is working with the presidential task force and together are taking strict measures to halt the spread of the virus.
“An intensive national risk communications campaign is ongoing to inform Nigerians about COVID-19.
“The Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) working closely with states and the Presidential Task Force on the Control of Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to review response activities and institute measures to protect the health of Nigerians”, he said in addition.
He further enjoined everyone to practice social distancing; to stay 5 feet away from each other. Ehanire also discouraged large public gatherings and admonished Nigerians to take precautions to protect their health.
Federal Government shuts down schools
Federal Ministry of Education has ordered the immediate closure of all educational institutions. This includes, tertiary, secondary and primary schools nationwide.
Sonny Echono, permanent secretary of the ministry of education, disclosed this in a statement.
“We have directed all higher institutions to close this weekend. Unity Schools that have completed their exams are to close immediately. Others are to hurry and close the latest on 26th March,” his statement read.
This is a precautionary move is aimed at curtailing the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) disease in the country. It is proving to be far elusive than previously thought.
National Sports Festival cancelled
The National Sports Festival, scheduled for 27th March 2020 in Edo State has also been cancelled. This announcement is also because of the risk of spreading the virus in the country. Thus, the National Sports Festival may hold at a later date, that is if it is not cancelled completely.
Also, in a recent press release, the government had warned against self-treatment using chloroquine.
