Xiaomi has released its new quadrupedal robot called CyberDog. This clean, minimal-looking robot would be released into the wild in only 1,000 units.

The Chinese company’s initial 1,000 units are available to “Xiaomi Fans, engineers, and robotic enthusiasts.” This open-source machine will be available for testing, and its first testers will “propel the development and potential of quadruped robots.”

Xiaomi’s CyberDog has three USB-C ports and an HDMI port. Under the hood, the robot is powered by Nvidia’s Jetson Xavier AI platform. The smart Dog has an arrear of sensors, cameras, GPS modules, and touch sensors.

The CyberDog has a “pet-like nature”, it responds to voice commands, navigates semi-autonomously, and even follows its owner like a real Dog. Although not as cheap as a real dog, the CyberDog first 1000 units will cost 9,999 Yuan around $1,550 each.

Meanwhile, it weighs 3 kilograms, can perform backflips, and runs at 3.2 miles per second. Xiaomi says the “CyberDog can analyze its surroundings in real-time, create navigational maps, plot its destination, and avoid obstacles.”

“Coupled with human posture and face recognition tracking, CyberDog is capable of following its owner and darting around obstructions,”

Since this robot has Intel’s Realsense D450 camera, it should have panoramic cameras, lidar sensors, and searchlights. Tesla’s initial electric cars had this technology.

Xiaomi now surpasses Samsung, leveraging on its last quarter shipment figures. The company was the number two smartphone vendor globally, for the second quarter of 2021.

 

 

A historic moment for Xiaomi, as it now holds 25% of the European market share. It grew its shipment more than 14% year on year to a value of 50 million units.

Xiaomi smartphones provide 5G connectivity in budget smartphones. Samsung will have to keep its supply constraints in check to reclaim its position.

The Chinese company keeps pushing out innovative products, its CyberDog looks to change the smart IoT industry.
