Several industry practitioners have condemned the actions of The Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) after it barred its members from working with actresses Iyabo Ojo and Nkechi Blessing. The association had taken a stand against the women at a press conference at its Lagos secretariat following their involvement in actor Baba Ijesha’s r*pe case.
In an Instagram post, ROK Studio boss, Mary Remmy Njoku criticised the association’s actions writing: “Where there are allegations of r**e or child molestation there is no such thing as overreaction. Today in Nigeria I don’t believe we are reacting enough. I stand with and want to thank these two strong women who have used their time and platforms to speak up against it. You both are my crush Today and always.”

Comedian and actor Debo Macaroni also wrote a Twitter thread on the issue. He questioned how come Yomi Fabiyo who is also neck-deep in Baba Ijesha’s case still remains unscathed by TAMPAN.
“A press conference should have been held at the beginning of the whole thing. Letting the public know TAMPAN’S stand on Baba Ijesha and the matters arising. If Iyabo Ojo went too far, so did Yomi Fabiyi. If we can demand accountability from the government, what about ourselves?”
When I say Yomi Fabiyi gaslighted the entire situation, this is what I mean. How can you call yourself A Human Rights Activist and you are questioning the girl’s age because she is on dreads?? Isn’t that the profiling we are fighting against? pic.twitter.com/D0pKCTUhuy

Veteran Yoruba actor Funsho Adeolu also took his Instagram to condemn the recent actions of TAMPAN saying he was ashamed on their behalf.
“My face is covered. Not because of Covid but in shame on behalf of those who call themselves leaders of local association and do not have the interest of members at heart. God is watching o.”

Veteran star actress Ego Boyo also weighed in on the issue. Writing on Twitter, she said she was appalled at the actions of the association, their staging a full-fledged war against women who spoke up against r*pe and pedophilia.
“A whole press conference…. smh. To silence and bully a woman for being vocal about pedophilia and other horrible practices in the industry. I wish I was shocked,” the actress and film producer tweeted.

TAMPAN claimed the women dragged the association in the mud for speaking out against the alleged child molester. On the other hand, actor Yomi Fabiyi who has been quite vocal in his support for the accused and Baba Ijesha are still curiously in TAMPAN’s good books.
