Disney announces pausing all political donations in Florida until the state reviews the “Don’t Say Gay” bill passed by the Parental Rights in Education.
The Parental Rights in Education bill, which has passed both the Florida Senate and House, has put streaming giant in a tight box. Initially, after the news about the bill — which bans teaching about s****l orientation and gender identity to kindergarten through grade 3 children — broke, Disney had tried to stay out of it.
Disney had tried to avoid mixing itself in politics, despite several employees writing to it to do something to stop the bill before it even passed the Senate. The company had said that the best way it could bring about lasting change was through its inspiring content, welcoming culture, and the diverse community organisations it supports.
However, employees feel like these are not enough. In addition, they accused Disney of censoring queer representation in its films and TV series. What would satisfy them was statement from the management.

The statement eventually came in form an internal memo. Disney CEO Bob Chapek first apologised for how the company approached the matter. Then, the other parts read:
“Starting immediately, we are increasing our support for advocacy groups to combat similar legislation in other states. We are hard at work creating a new framework for our political giving that will ensure our advocacy better reflects our values. And today, we are pausing all political donations in the state of Florida pending this review.”
