Disney, Warner Bros, Sony Cancel Movie Releases In Russia Over Ukraine Invasion

Top Hollywood studios Warner Bros., Disney, and Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced they will not be releasing their latest films in Russia following the country’s president Vladmir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

As a result of this decision, their major films such as ‘The Batman’, ‘Turning Red’ and ‘Morbius’ will not be screened in Russia.

“Given the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and the tragic humanitarian crisis, we are pausing the theatrical release of films in Russia,” Disney said in a statement. This was while speaking on ‘Turning Red’, its upcoming Pixar animated film.

The film production giants also said it will be working with top humanitarian agencies to send aid to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, BBC quoted a Sony Pictures spokesperson saying;  “Given the ongoing military action in Ukraine and the resulting uncertainty and humanitarian crisis unfolding in that region, we will be pausing our planned theatrical releases in Russia, including the upcoming release of Morbius,”

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been impacted and hope this crisis will be resolved quickly.

Warner Bros movie ‘The Batman’, is also due to premiere this Friday, March 4 in Russia.

However, this will no longer be happening according to a statement from the corporation.

In the same vein, Marvel will not release its ‘Morbius’ adaption in Russia.

This comes as many governments and world bodies continue to impose several sanctions on Russia.

FIFA and the Olympics have banned Russian citizens from participating in any international tournament and competitions.

Meanwhile, peace talks between The Kremlin and Ukraine have been postponed.

The war has entered its day 7.
