Singer Drake has openly sided with The Weeknd over his recent comments on the Grammy nominations. The Weeknd Maybe Disses Drake for Bella Hadid Rumors on “Lost in the Fire” | W Magazine | Women's Fashion & Celebrity NewsThe Weeknd had called the Grammys “corrupt” after his very successful 2020 album “After Hours” and songs “Blinding Lights” and “Heartless” curiously failed to get a nod from the academy.

The singer after the 2021 nominations were annouced on E! Livestream tweeted “The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans, and the industry transparency.”

Drake on his Instagram story, supported The Weeknd saying The Grammys may soon become obsolete.

“I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones that come after. It’s like a relative you keep expecting to fix up but they just can’t change their ways,” Drake wrote.

He said, like other people, he expected The Weeknd to pick up some major awards with “After Hours.”

“The other day I said @theweeknd was a lock for either album. Or song of the year along with countless other reasonable assumptions and it just never goes that way.

“This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up over time. And pass on to the generations to come,” the 34-year-old singer said.

Drake also tagged some other artists like  Lil Baby, PartyNextDoor, Popcaan, and the late Pop Smoke who did not get any nominations.

Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd, and other major artists also reshared Drake’s story on their Instagram. Earlier, Nicki Minaj had also wrote on her Instagram that the Grammy’s cheated her out of an award in 2012.

Drake in his very successful career has received four Grammy Awards, with three nominations for the 2021 edition. However, this is not the first time the “Hot Line Bling” singer will be expressing distrust in the Grammy selection system.

In 2014, after Macklemore emerged winner in the Best Rap Album Category over Drake, Kanye West, Jay Z and Kendrick Lamar, he told Rolling Stones he did not believe the best deserving artist won.

“This is how the world works. He made a brand of music that appealed to more people than me, Hov, Kanye and Kendrick. Whether people wanna say it’s racial, or whether it’s just the fact that he tapped into something we can’t tap into. That’s just how the cards fall,” Drake said at the time.

Reacting to The Weeknd’s comments, The Recording Academy interim president and CEO Harvey Mason Jr. released a statement saying.

We understand that The Weeknd is disappointed at not being nominated. I was surprised and can empathize with what he is feeling. His music this year was excellent. And his contributions to the music community and broader world are worthy of everyone’s admiration,” Mason said.

He also said he did not believe that The Weeknd’s failure to bag a nomination suggests the voting system is flawed.
