Today 8th March 2020 is International Women’s Day with the theme: “Each For Equal”. This theme is aimed at a society where women get treated with equality in all spheres of life.
It implies that a woman can also climb the ladder of greatness, and can as well sit with her male counterparts in decision making. Often times, policies made are unfavourable to women in the workplace as well as in the home.
For example, in some corporate organisations, a woman is not permitted to get married within the first year of employment. Others state in their employee’s handbook that the company will lay a woman off if she gets pregnant within two years.
As many have argued, their male counterparts do not lose their jobs for getting married in the first year. Neither is he laid off if his wife gets pregnant in the second year.
In some cultures, a woman goes through heartbreaking rituals to prove her innocence in the demise of her husband. Meanwhile, everyone just consoles the man at the death of his wife.

Well, a lot of people have stated that gender equality is not really possible in a male-dominated world. But what do women really want?
Women need support from family, friends and the men in their life. A man that supports their dreams and is not intimidated by their achievement and ambitions.
She is an embodiment of potentials that needs a platform to come alive. On the romantic side, women want attention. A woman needs love, tender compassionate love from her man and the society.
She also wants to grow in her career and job. Many seek to find balance as a wife, mother and career woman.
Everyone needs to put hands on deck to assist women to achieve their full potentials. Also, women need to collaborate and support each other.
They should see themselves as partners in progress and not opponents in their quest for greatness. The sky is large for everyone as they say.
So as the world celebrates International Women’s Day the question remains if “Each for equal” a possibility of just another theme.
Meanwhile, you can also pitch your voice in to support women. Many social media platforms have provided hashtags to celebrate International Women’s Day. Some popular ones are; #InternationalWomensDay, #IWD and #EachForEqual.
