Eight Tips To Help Plan Your Wedding On A Budget

Gone are the days when you have to empty your bank account or take a loan to get married. Planning a wedding can drain a couple’s finances if they are not meticulous with their spending.

It’s fine to want a lavish wedding but if you can’t afford one, use the tips below to get married on a budget.

1.  Draw a budget

You and your partner must first sit and have a conversation on your budget for the wedding. How much do you both have in your bank accounts? how much are you willing to spend on your wedding?.

After establishing the amount you intend to spend, list out your priorities. Have a list of the things you and your partner feel must be available on your wedding day, things you won’t want to compromise on or cut off.

Bear in mind that you are sticking strictly to this budget and no family interference will make you do away with it.

2. Organise a weekday wedding

It might sound weird but it isn’t. After all, no law states that Saturdays are the only days to get married. So, having your wedding on a Monday, Wednesday, or weekday will help you cut costs on a lot of things like reducing the number of guests, food items, and venue.

People who will attend your wedding on a weekday will definitely be close family and friends who will not want to miss your big day. Also, prices for venues will be reduced because it is not on the normal party day.

3. Cut down on the wedding dress budget

Every bride wants to wear a magnificent dress on their big day, one that will make heads turn. However, it’s not a good idea if your wedding dress is eating deep into the budget.

For instance, instead of sewing or buying a new wedding dress, you can choose to rent or better still get your dress when a bridal house is on a promo sale.

4. Have your traditional and white wedding on the same day

Celebrating your traditional and white wedding on the same day cuts the cost of cooking and drinks.

The traditional wedding can be a very intimate outing with strictly family members while close friends can attend the white wedding reception where food and drinks will be served.

5. Send e-invites

Say bye-bye to hard copy invitation cards thanks to social media. Cut off the printing cost, and go modern by sending online invitations to your guests. Apps like Canva have different templates you can use to design your wedding card

You can send a broadcast message to your close friends and family or even open group chats on WhatsApp to aid planning.

Since you already cut down your guest list, it will be easy to send the invites. They will also understand because they’re your closest people.

6. Get an affordable venue

There are many low-cost venues you can have your wedding. Try to get a venue that will occupy your guests and make sure it’s the one you won’t be spending more than your budget.

However, if you have access to a family compound or garden then that saves a fortune. You won’t have to spend more on the venue. Your cost will just be for the tent, tables, and chairs. Then, you can have your beautiful compound wedding.

7. Allow friends and family to help out

Having vendors plan your wedding tends to be expensive so you can ask your friends to help you out. To help reduce costs, you can ask your friends to help you out according to their talents.

Even if you’re to pay, you won’t pay as much as you will pay a vendor. For example, a friend can help act as the Master of Ceremony and another friend good with interior decoration can help with the venue decorations.

8. Make it a “strictly by invitation” affair

People don’t like gate-crashing strictly by invitation” events because they don’t want to be embarrassed, especially when they have to present either their hard copy or unique e-invite at the reception.

This can really limit your event to strictly friends and family members. No one is even allowed to bring a plus one.

Remember, your marriage is about your love and your partnership. So you should not go overboard to satisfy people. There is no award for the best wedding of the year.
