But the pandemic came, 2021 was not possible for June and July deliveries of the R1T’s. Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe informs buyers in a mail on Friday.

He mentioned “We know you can’t wait to get behind the wheel of your vehicle. Earlier this summer, we announced that deliveries would begin in July;”

“However, the timing for the first deliveries of the R1T has shifted to September, with the R1S shortly thereafter in the fall. I wanted to be sure you heard this from me directly,”

Lately, Rivian owners have been complaining online about the company’s lack of communication regarding the delivery of electric vehicles.

Scaringe blames the ongoing chip storage and difficulties of producing these electric vehicles in its plant.

“The cascading impacts of the pandemic have had a compounding effect greater than anyone anticipated. “

“Everything from facility construction, to equipment installation, to vehicle component supply (especially semiconductors) has been impacted by the pandemic.”

The company is also producing electric delivery vans for Amazon in the same plant, hence the delay and difficulties.

Despite the high volume of vehicle production at the plant, the company is promising customers the delay will be worth it. As it will ensure that its vehicles don’t have quality issues when they finally deliver to customers.
