Elon Musk revealed that Twitter may have to layoff some of its employees while confirming that remote work could continue at the company. His answers came during an internal Q&A session on Thursday, June 16.
Although the tech billionaire planning to take over Twitter did not explicitly state that the company will be firing some workers, his statement regarding cost of operations can be linked to that.
According to employees at the meeting, Musk said that Twitter’s cost surpass its revenue and it is not a good financial situation to be in. Also, besides the recent internal meeting, he had told investors about his plan to do away with about 900 jobs while trying to increase the social media company’s revenue.

Typically, the 7,000 people working at Twitter had been apprehensive of what an Elon Musk takeover would be like and this new details may confirm their fears. However, the belief that people who insist on working remotely would be the first to get the axe is not true.
The Tesla boss mentioned that there is no good reason to fire people for their preferred mode of working. Although, he concedes that he prefers the work-in-person model that has helped his other companies to succeed, he would not force it on Twitter employees.
“If someone can only work remotely, and they’re exceptional, it wouldn’t make sense to fire them,” he said in response to a question regarding remote work.
Also, he added that the final decision on that would depend on what the managers think about the employees’ contribution to the company.
