Elon Musk has announced a Neuralink progress update ‘show & tell’ for October 31, shortly after teasing interest in the company’s rival, Synchron.
The brain chip company was founded in 2016 but first made a public appearance in March 2017. Since then, the company has hired some of the most notable neuroscientists and has grown its staff to 90 people.
It designed a tool called ‘probes’ that can be inserted into the brain to amplify and collect signals from the brain. Its robot, revealed in 2019, can reduce tissue damage and longevity caused by old-fashioned probes because it can rapidly insert more flexible probes into brains.
Neuralink also notably built an Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) to develop a 1,536-channel recording system capable of being individually programmed. Also, it contains analog-to-digital converters within the chip and a peripheral circuit control that can serialise digitised information obtained.

As of 2020, the company had FDA approval to start limited human testing. However, Neuralink is still famous for its animal tests, which involve implanting chips in the brains of live monkeys, pigs, and others. These implants are unpopular, with several groups criticising their methods.
Elon Musk’s announcement of a show and tell about Neuralink’s progress could be like its August 2020 live demonstration, where the Billionaire presented a pig named Gertrude with a chip implant that he described as a “Fitbit in your skull”.
