5 changes to expect from Elon Musk new Twitter

Musk buys Twitter for $44 billion on April 25, 2022 after the company’s board accepted his buyout offer. While this is no longer news, users understand that there are going to be several changes to the new Twitter under Elon Musk.

Here 5 changes that could come to Elon Musk-led Twitter:

1. Could permanently suspended accounts come back?

Permanently suspended accounts like the famous @realDonaldTrump, that the former US President Donald Trump used, could make a return to the platform. Musk has said several times that he would like to see more freedom of speech on Twitter and even former CEO Jack Dorsey has voiced concerns regarding permanently suspending accounts.

2. More freedom = more chaos

There is likely going to be less censorship of Tweets, which is quite a tricky aspect of the company’s responsibility. With the ability to misinform and endanger lives, giving free reign to say whatever one likes may not actually be a good thing.

3. No more anonymity is a possibility

Rumours have it that Musk may push to verify everyone using the platform — this is not about the verification badge. Doing this may not be a good idea for users who seek anonymity because of several reasons ranging from privacy to safety.

4. Twitter subscription model to become a priority

With Elon Musk’s reputation for making money, Twitter users should expect several changes geared toward putting more money in the company’s pocket. Already, there is a push to make the sub service, Twitter Blue, even more appealing.

5. #RipTwitter: could we see massive exodus?

While it may not be in very large significant numbers, there is the anticipation that some users may deactivate their accounts due to policy changes over content censorship. For example, just after the Musk takeover was made official, NBC News reported that over 200,000 accounts following singer Katy Perry left the platform while 90,000 users started following American politician and conspiracy theorist Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

There is expected to be other bigger scale changes on the platform like a shift in popularity dynamic, which liberals have enjoyed in recent years. Conservatives are expected to start enjoying some time in the sun too. In addition, the notorious edit button could finally see the light of day under Elon Musk leadership.

Despite the anticipated changes, Twitter will likely largely remain the same.
